My reading class finished reading, "Maniac Magee," a story about a boy who runs. He runs into a town that is segregated but he doesn't understand why. Maniac is fearless, curious, and loving and my students loved his character. They were asked to recreate a scene from the book by creating a diorama. They then presented it to the class. They were graded on accuracy of the scene, creativity and time spent, description of scene on a note card, and presentation.
